Gone for the winter...

Just finished putting the camper and woodie back into storage and am flying out this evening for the winter in the Philippines. We took shorter trips this year and stayed on the west coast. Will be back next May or so, have a great winter...

RE: Any great suggestions for bedding on a camper?

Not a problem for me, I just start at the bottom straightening it out working to the head and then smoothing it out working back.

RE: Service on a truck when on a trip.

I found quite a few Dodge dealers will not touch my truck with the camper on so I go to the Cummins repair shops. Cummins has been very good about servicing my truck with minimal waiting. Have seen other truck repair shops that service motorhomes, they might do the pickup too if they have the parts in stock or available.

Snow in July???

Traveling on 97C going from Merritt to Kelowna in British Columbia we ran into quite a snow storm last week. There was about 3 inches of snow on the ground of Pennask Summit when we went over, glad we didn't need chains as we didn't have any... http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b328/rskippy/canada2008001.jpg

RE: eTrailer.com

Very quick and good parts for my needs. Great communication of order receipt and shipping. Will use them again if needed.

RE: Summerwind TC

Summerwind did make a shortbed model of the 811 so it would probably work. The water, batteries, and propane tanks are located to the front of the camper. I bought mine in 2002 and have had good luck with it which is good as the manufacturer went out of business in 2003.

RE: Long waits for ford diesel service

Many Dodge dealers will not touch my truck with the camper, specially ones in city or suburban areas. Found that Cummins shops will take my truck without a problem and on a dropin while I was traveling. Glad I got a cummins engine.

RE: Sonora Pass - should I do this?

If you are running an automatic I would say no way, can do it in a manual if you slow down before the grade. Most people into trouble after they have started going down. Also stopping a couple times to let the brakes cool helps a lot. It does have a few very steep spots there but doable in my truck at a full load of 9300 pounds. When I came down from the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado last summer there is a check point where the rangers check the brake temperature with an infrared scanner, I was told my brakes wear great considering my weight and let go on, there were other cars parked there waiting for their brakes to cool after they had passed me coming down. The tortoise won that round with the rabbit...

RE: Flat tire with the TC on

Was that damage caused by the flat? Yes, the damaged was caused by the tire. Was doing 58 mph on the cruise control when it went, it did handle it well considering it was the right rear tire that went. $2600+ to repair the damage and the insurance covered all but $500.

RE: Flat tire with the TC on

I lost a tire outside of Green River, Utah. Good Sam came out and changed it, they had the equipment to handle the situation. It took them and hour and a half to get there though which was not bad considing we were in the middle of no where... http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b328/rskippy/june2007284.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b328/rskippy/june2007282.jpg

RE: How and where are you carrying extra fuel for your TC?

My 35 gallon stock tank is just fine for all my traveling, get a range of over 450 miles. I also do not want to add any more weight as my truck is at the maximum gvw when loaded and tanks are full.

RE: Full Size Camper on Standard Cab Truck

Nope, been running my current setup for over 100,000 miles and my previous truck and camper was the same setup for 16 years. Nice thing about it is I can park my truck camper in any standard sized parking space.

Fuel prices in Guam

Gas was 3.819 and diesel was 3.969. Luckily I had a very economical rental car, a Toyota Yaris. Will be back in the USA and on the road in the truck camper April 10.

RE: Is there a hybride in your future?

A couple years ago Dodge was showing a prototype hybred diesel with a compartment with 120 and 240 outlets, I think they were calling it a contractors special. That would be a great truck for a camper, no need for a gererator, charge the batteries while going down the road...

RE: Question for the Amateur Radio Operators out there.

WOW !! I was a radio operator in the Army in the 60's and always wanted to be a Ham operator, but never knew how to even start.........here I am living 1/2 mile from one.........is it to late ? hummm....maybe.....TD Its very easy nowadays to get a ham radio license as the morse code requirement is not required. Go to arrl.com and look for testing and it will show you scheduled tests in your area. Study books are available from ham stores and even Radio Shack, Borders or Barnes and Noble. My antennas are mounted on the grill guard of my truck so I don't have to move them to put the camper, works pretty well too.
